Living Lightly with the F.M. Alexander Technique

The Alexander Technique is a 100 year old self-help method that teaches you how to recover balance and poise in every day activities. RSI, sciatica, joint, neck, vocal strain and back strain are often inadvertently caused by patterns of thinking and reaction that interfere with your freedom in movement.

You can learn to prevent unnecessary stress and muscle tension through the gentle hands-on guidance and verbal instruction of the teacher. Clients report sustained relief from debilitating conditions and increased levels of alertness, efficiency, calm, energy and well being.

A weekly course of lessons over 5 months is recommended to successfully apply the Technique to every day life.

“Alexander Technique
effective for back pain”
A team from the universities of Bristol and Southampton compared the effectiveness of massage, exercise and the Alexander Technique in 579 patients with back pain. Those who had received 24 lessons in the Alexander Technique reported 18 fewer days of back pain over four weeks compared with those who had been taking exercise alone, according to the study published online by the

“The Alexander Technique is increasingly referred to as an alternative therapy but Alexander teachers are not medically trained so treatment and cure isn't the basis of the work. AT teachers do however teach the Life skills necessary to avoid problems such as back pain and usually, as the trial shows, existing back conditions improve markedly”
