Aromatherapy is an ancient therapeutic treatment that combines the art and science of using essential plant oils to enhance wellbeing, reduce stress and help in the rejuvenation of the human body. The essential plant oils the Aromatherapist uses contains a wealth of naturally occurring chemical constituents whose properties have been documented in well-researched scientific papers and variously described as having, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-spasmodic, anti-microbial, cicatrising, emmenagogue, expectorant, sudorific, diuretic, oxygenating, sedative, and many other qualities, which lends support to their widespread use throughout history.

During the course of an Aromatherapy treatment, the use of essential oils combined with specific massage techniques, facilitates an improvement in health and well-being by supporting innate healing processes that help rebalance the body. As well as being safe, Aromatherapy treatments offer solutions for a broad range of health problems from simple treatments for haemorrhoids and acid reflux to more complex treatments for arthritis, breast tenderness, cancer, circulation, epilepsy, infections (urinary respiratory, glandular), irritable bowel syndrome, menopause, painful joints, painful periods, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, sciatica, skin problems, stress and many others, where they have played a vital role in accelerating the healing process, increasing mobility and recovery for many individuals.

Maria Nethercot is a highly qualified Aromatherapist and is extremely knowledgeable about the origin, use and properties of a large number of essential oils. Over the years she has provided individual therapeutic treatments, and has developed specific products for clients with particular disorders, at clinics in London and Farnborough, Kent. She is a member of the International Federation of Aromatherapists (IFA) as well as a number of other organisations. Maria is a published author contributing feature articles on health, aromatherapy and agricultural issues.
